The staff at Stellar Smiles are experts in preventative, restorative, and emergency services, as well as root canal therapy and cosmetic dentistry. We’re also just as professional as we are approachable.

Dr. Matt Shachat, DMD

Dr. Matt Shachat grew up in Oakland, California in the Bay Area. Growing up, his sister had routine dental problems and he saw first-hand how dental pain and anxiety can negatively impact other areas of someone’s life. To help alleviate that pain, he attended Tufts University for a B.S. in chemistry and then to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine.

Upon graduating, Dr. Matt focused on providing treatment to underserved populations in rural Massachusetts and later in Chicago’s South and West sides. Serving a community and building relationships remains central to why Dr. Matt practices dentistry. He did further training in pediatric dentistry involving nitrous oxide and oral sedation to accommodate patients with special needs. During this time he resolved to create a space where every patient that walks through his door could receive exceptional care no matter their treatment needs.

At Stellar Smiles Dr. Matt provides a non-judgmental dental experience. He provides every patient the tools they need to succeed, and will aid them every step of the way to achieve their individual oral health goals. In order to ensure he is offering the best treatments available, he is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, and the Chicago Dental Society.

Outside of work, Dr. Matt takes time every week to appreciate the wonderful city he calls home. There’s always a new restaurant to try, a new technique to learn, and his goal for 2024 is to perfect his grandmother’s brisket recipe. From concerts to cooking classes, puppet shows to potlucks, Dr. Matt loves being part of his Chicago community.
